ALERT ALL WHO EMAIL ME!!!

My niece's email account was hacked today. She has me on her contact list so therefore I opened an email from who I thought was her to not realize it was a scam before I replied. Naturally the next thing was wanting money so then I telephone her at the newspaper she works for. She told me then she had been hacked.
She said all my contacts are now in jeopardy of receiving scam emails in my email address. Please DO NOT OPEN ANything from me. The only Cuties I recently sent an email to are NAN and LYNETTE.
She told me to change my email password, which I did. RESCUER do I need to do anything else?
I am so sorry this happened, as well as she is, but unfortunately we have unsavory people, trying to get what they can, just working their fingers and evil minds.
Also RESCUER do I need to change my passwords at all the sites I belong to?

Toogie don't feel too bad. It has happened to all of us at one time or another. Thanks for the alert. Hugs. Nan

If people who do this would use their fingers and brains doing good things what a great country we would have.
Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Kathy. We had a widow woman at church BELIEVING a scam and sent all her life savings. She sent over $200,000 ! Her kids, family, everyone tried to convince her it was a scam. Promise of marriage, etc, etc.
Then if that wasn't bad enough she sold her nice big brick home and after the kids got half for their dad's part, she sent that money.
She now rents an apartment. When she sends her nephew to Walmart for $40. things she needs, she ask if she could pay him next month out of her retirement check income. She is a retired school teacher!
So sad, when they are so brain washed their known and loved family and close friends, can't make them understand. My friend Trudy, I made the blue coat hanger safe for, grew up with this woman, went to college together, and remained friends all these years. Trudy hated what was happening but the woman wouldn't listen to her BFF. Now Trudy is sick about it but helpless.

If you do think its alright, I will send you the updated pattern as it printed correct size for me. I also ran a long scan and said everything is okay now. I truly hope so. Let me know if you want the emailed updated pattern.

Just know it will all be OK. You didn't get one of the really bad ones. If the scan shows anything, let me know via PM so I don't miss seeing it.

Thanks Toogie, I read my PM before I went to emails and I'm o.k. I don't understand those scammers, they obviously don't have anything else better to do with their time! Hope you get it all sorted out.

Big thanks to rescuer for the information as well. Love Chris

It is always a good idea to change passwords every 6 months or so..BUT you need to make sure your computer is "clean" first. Run an online scan like the ones from Eset, Kaspersky, or Trendmicro. They are free but they do take LONG time to finish. Also, you can run a second kind of program that checks for malware like the one you opened. I use malwarebytes.org to run their free scan. All the scans should show no malware/viruses. Usually when you open that kind of thing, it is located only in your temp files. However, if you need help with this -- send me a PM. Most of all -- don't panic! Your health...it will all be OK.

Thank you for this information.

If there is anything left in temp files, would it have shown in the long scan? Everything seems ok on my pc.

rescuer by rescuer 09 Feb 2018

The online scan looks at all files -- so yes, it would have found it.

I'm so sorry to hear this toogie. You did nothing wrong. All the blame lays at the feet of the scammer.
