Hello Dears, I`m working through my embroidery files and convert the missing vp3-files. The older embroidery sets do not contain any vp3-files. Would yoou like to put them on the webside?

My software is Pfaff 5D. If I download a design, say .pes, I can then save it to my directory with a slight change in the name and it saves it as a .vp3 design automatically. Just discovered that recently Avis

FYI Cuties
Re-naming a file doesn't convert it. It might make the file unusable -- so I don't recommend it. If you have software (like Avis has) and it actually converts the file -- then that might be helpful. I know there are free programs like Wilson for those that feel they need the conversion.

When you use 'save' in the 5D or later software it changes the format always to vp3, but you don't have to change the name as having a different format the original is not overwritten. However, it might be useful to add something to the name, like a number, so you know which was the original and which the converted one.

But you don't have to use the software at all. Just move a design from the file to a flashdrive and use it as is (unless it is ART) the machine will be able to read and stitch it.

When I "change" the name I usually slightly change something, perhaps use a capital instead of a lower case of one letter; and I do keep the original until I'm sure the change I make works. However, the points you have made are angles I haven't always thought about. Thanks for sharing your wisdom...there is always more to learn and right now I'm in a "sponge" mode as I work with my new machine.

The pfaff and viking machines can use the older vip-format as well as the newer vp3. I never convert the vip files and those are available in alll the older designs as well as in the new ones. I very much doubt that converting adds the extra information vp3 holds that vip lacks. Only creating them in vp3 or the latest vp4 saves them with more info. I just use either vip or vp3 and it makes no difference to the stitch-out.

I have a Huskvarna-Viking Diamond de Luxe and it reads only vp3.

I have a Diamond and what you say is incorrect. I can use hus, vip, vp3, dst, and pes up to at least version 6.

I also have a Diamond and it doesn't seem to matter which format I send to it, pes, vip, vp3, hus, dst, it will convert it to what it needs to embroider the design and ignore anything it doesn't recognise.

I have a Ruby, cheaper than the Diamond and thus a bit less advanced and still it reads 12 different embroidery formats, but not ART. I tried out vp3, vip, hus, pes, dst and jef and they all work perfectly. So save yourself a lot of work and try it out!

Kampfzwerg, have a look in your manual, you'll find the info in the "File Management" chapter.

I see that the older designs do not come in that format. If you can't download in the vp3 format, you may need to use software to convert it. There are some free conversion software around if you don't already have software that converts formats.

I'm not sure I understand -- can you clarify for me? Do you mean you want the website owner to convert older designs to add the vp3 or are you asking for her designs (converted by you) to be added?

I`m converting the Art-files to vp3 with ART-Link 7. Since it takes a lot of time and efford to work throgh so many files, I thought I might help to support you. At least with the sets.

You would need to ask the owner about that. I cannot answer for her in this case. Send a PM to "test" no capitalization and no quotes. You will need to be very patient for a return PM as she gets hundreds (sometimes more) messages every day.
