I thought I would show you a project that has gone wrong too many times. I hope the final stocking works for my neighbor. The first one I stitched, I misspelled the name. It is supposed to be spelled Magnus. The second one was crooked -- but it is hard to tell since the letters are not straight by design. I have now taken 3 furry red stockings apart and put them back together again. The one with the knockdown stitching is the last one, I hope. The other one was a bx font without knockdown stitches that I cut the fur from around the name -- but misspelled it. The first photo is the one that is correct and has the knockdown stitches.

A cautionary tale for those of us who don't do practice stitchouts! The end result is wonderful!

I know what knockdown stitches are, but never saw them used where I can actually see the stitches. Now, I don't know how to do thelm. It looks like they are just stitches sewn on a sewing machine. Or, are the knockdown stitches an actually embroidery design?

Thank you!
I did a practice stitch-out. LOL I asked my boys if it looked OK. They said yes. I asked later why they didn't tell me it was misspelled -- I asked if it LOOKED OK not if it was spelled correctly. LOL I do love my boys! Spelling is not my strong suit.
Knockdown stitches are done with the embroidery machine as if it were the first color in a design to sew. It is a special feature in embroidery software.

I saw something here that I am not familiar with. Can someone tell me what knockdown stitches are?

If you look closely at the picture (spelled Magnus) you will see white stitching under the lettering. The knockdown stitches make a flat space to place embroidery.

Thank you for the explanation.

Looks perfect now. Don't you just love knock-down stitches. They tame all sorts of impossible fabrics. I would have misspelled Mangus as well, sounds like fruit to me.

Thank you. The true spelling is Magnus. Even my spell checker thinks it is wrong. lol The boys joke about us using the other stocking for our dog, Gus. I'm sure they will laugh about the fruit bit.

I bet Gus will be happy no matter how his name looks!

Looks great! That fur is a bear to stitch - ask me how I know. I think 3 times is what is required to get the dang things right. LOL! Have you stopped inhaling the fuzzies yet?

Just click on my user name and then Projects. I do have a few... I thought for the first 3 or 4 years that only Cute designs could be shown or you had to have special membership here to post -- so I didn't post for the first few years.
