UPDATE: Well the lace I had matched perfectly in the daylight but my daughter tried the dress on again once it was completely dry. It was still damp in the pics below. It was worse once it had dried and looked more like a party dress. As a last resort we drove half an hour away to a store for when they opened and joy oh joy they had some new stock and my daughter found the most perfect amazing dress that fitted like it was made for her! It wasn't cheap but looked beautiful. I will add a pic later when she is wearing it as I am in a rush now. Not sure what we will do with the short dress I think we can still rescue it but it is just not suitable for semi formal type events as it is.

Thank you to all of you for your advice.

HELP! I need some suggestions how to deal with this. I only have 12 hours some of which I need to get some sleep.

My DD bought this dress for graduation yesterday. We washed it on a very delicate cycle in the machine and it has shrunk!

I have shaken, pulled and even ironed it to try and fix it with no success so far. The outer fabric has shrunk about 2 inches and apart from being way to short it is shorter than the poly stretch lining. There is only 1cm of hem left to let down. What can i do. My DD needs this by tomorrow

I see that I'm too late here. If you have such again, Sometimes rewetting fabrics has worked for me. It makes the fibers relax again and you can gently pull every now and then as it dries hanging up.
I know that you're making it work and kudos!

Thank you. It was still wet in this photo and we were trying everything possible whilst it was wet.

Tell her not to let it ruin her day. I am sure you will find the perfect lace and she then will have a custom creation that no one else can even come close to matching!

I think lace is probably your only option. I am so sorry that this happened. Please post a picture of the finished result. Tea is great for dying lace but make sure it is cotton lace.

My DD is so stressed about it all she has barely said a word. I have shared suggestions from here and she agrees lace will be a great option and will make the dress more her style too. Crossing fingers the lace looks good in the daylight

Thank you. We have found some lace in my stash but now I need to wait until daylight in the morning to see if it matches or if I need to tea dye it before we sew it on.

oops, perhaps you can make it longer by stitching a strip of white lace at the hem of the dress ( hope I did spell all words correctly...) I added some suggestions:

Brilliant idea, a wide and pretty piece of lace

Yes I had this thought also. Shops are shut now until tomorrow morning I will only have 2 hours tomorrow to do anything while the shops are open

Actually just had a thought I may have some vintage lace that might work if I can find it. Off to look now.....
