I have realized that I am a great pontificator. I talk for ages about what I am going to make. I cut out, put away, perhaps embroider at some stage and eventually I get around to making what I originally planned.

Am I the only one who does this. Drives DH around the bend.

Miss Lillian I am so glad to hear you are doing some sewing.
Follow up on Ray's cut down jeans: I only finished one pair!
I still have two more to cut down to shorts, and four more jeans to cut and hem.
I am VERY easily distracted. LOL!!!
Have a lovely day, Huge hugs and much love xxxxx

Guilty as charged in all categories. Especially the "designs.". So often I get the design/fabric with a project in mind and never get to the actual construction of the project!

I have to "add buying another design or two" in that list to make it apply to me. And then many times I don't get around to actually doing it. My sewing room is a disaster area and I don't want to take the time to clean it up. I just happily shut the door and walk away. My family knows how I am and anybody else doesn't go in there. It's not a perfect life, but it works for us. We all have our quirks (maybe I have a few more than I should).

How I envy you with a sewing room. I have to get my embroidery machine (weighs a ton) out of my spare bedroom cupboard and set it up in my sitting room each time I use it. Such a pain.

Understandable..

ROFLMBO!!!! ;-)

Sara, I have to tell you this tale of woe.
Hubby has waited 3 years for me to hem some jeans and convert others into shorts, for him. I finally started using the excuse, "when you finish my sewing room, I'll do your jeans".
Well my sewing room is finished so on Friday I went down to start on his jeans and grabbed a pair to cut down, only one problem..... the last time I used my overlocker (serger), it was set up for coverstitch and I had no idea how I did it, or how and what I need to do to UNDO it....
So, the day was spent reading the three manuals trying to figure out which foot I needed, for starters.
I identified and sorted the 12 presser feet, cutting up the instruction sheets and placing each foot, with its instruction sheet, into little press lock bags. Then I pulled the manuals apart, discarding the other language sections and rebound them with only the useful bits....... ONE AFTERNOON COMPLETELY GONE. :-)
DAY TWO: I started re-threading the machine, reading the manuals until I knew what I was doing,
something didn't look right,
back to the manuals,
this looper doesn't look right,
AHAH! there's a button here, I'll just hold it down and see what that does, yep, moved it back for normal overlocking.
I'm ready to try a test stitch, hold on a minute, the needles don't line up with the looper threads. DOH!!! I'd better move them back into the right position. HOORAY the test stitch worked beautifully. AFTERNOON TWO COMPLETELY GONE!

DAY 3. (Do the weekly washing first while simply busting to get into my sewing)
Ooops, have to go and look at a Lathe for sale for Ray's upcoming birthday.
Ray needs to get something from the hardware store GRRRR!
Right, back home, have early dinner 5 pm.
NOW I'm going to sew those shorts.
Twenty minutes later both legs are cut down and overlocked, spent the rest of the evening unpicking the company logo embroidered on the back tab. AFTERNOON NUMBER THREE COMPLETELY GONE.
Maybe tomorrow I will finish the hems!!!
Four afternoons to cut down and hem a pair of jeans, a job that should normally take me about 45 minutes, and we wonder why we never get projects finished. LOL!!!!
Hugs n roses, M

I know the feeling but since posting I have done much more of finishing projects

asterixsew by asterixsew 23 Oct 2017

Had missed this. Oh it does sound a very familiar scenario

Never do today what you can put off 'til tomorrow.

Wait a minute, that doesn't sound right, does it?
It just seems appropriate for me in the last few years, though I now have no excuse as my sewing room is finally finished, sorted and ready to go. I just need to find my motivation again.
I think (as we get older) we must lose our concentration so it takes longer to complete jobs, so we start them, don't get them finished as quickly as we would have, something else crops up and the project loses its importance.
Though I do like Nan's take on it. LOL!
Here's another idea, I'm collecting fabric to leave to my granddaughters because their mum and dad can't keep up with the costs. LOL!!!
huge hugs, Meg

I read something years ago that talked about a crafter's brain. It said you dream it, plan it and gather supplies. Then in your mind, it is DONE! So said, I have quite a few UFOs in my stash, including 5 quilt tops. I have been trying to designate January as my "finish some UFO projects" month. Last year I think I moved out 3 projects and this January I plan on finishing a quilt top I started for my son about 5 years ago. So to answer your question, of course you are not the only one who does this. Hugs. Nan W

I panic if I have more than 3 projects unfinished. I have to have a day to finish them and I won’ t start another project. I also have to clean my sewing room after I finished the projects. My friend is the opposite and starts masses of projects without finishing olde ones so once in a while we organise finishing evenings, just so she has a few projects less.

I am also terribly orginised. At the moment I have a shelf full of embroidered things waiting to be sewn. I know that when I start they will probably take me less than a day. I is just getting down to it. Maybe today is the day

I have piles of projects to finish, some years old. And that doesn't count the lists I have made and never got around to even cutting out the pieces or locating the designs. I think there are many members in this club. If my handsome hubby says anything, I just need to mention the list of projects he has and he says nothing.

NO! NO! Have projects from years ago. Somehow I never get back to them. Someone always needs some thing and I have to quit and sometimes I forget what it was or wear I put it.

I don't even get as far as cutting out, I think about it (usually in the middle of the night), go back to sleep, then when I wake up the idea has totally gone.

I also do that

I use to do that, now I keep a pad and pen close by for just that reason..

Sounds like you're a long range planner. Sorry it bothers him. Seems to me you rather enjoy treasuring the idea awhile first before finishing?

I have two bins of projects I need to finish, and about 20 quilts besides that. Right now I'm working on my Peace Cottage quilt so I can take that one off my list, lol!

Absolutely NOT. Here I am on the computer, instead of gathering materials for a time with my BF at her house to make lap quilts. Though I do have a notebook of sketches going....
