I'm with Meg, I bought the 50 directly from the person who had them in Queensland and over 20 of them broke as the spools became brittle. I was fortunate enough to get my Metro threads from America and they are beautiful 5000m spools. I keep them in drawers below my fabric cupboard so they are protected from sun and dust.
I usually buy Robison Anton from my sewing machine repair places, but they are expensive, unless you buy more than one. Sometimes they have specials where the more you buy the cheaper they become.

Meg has ordered some lovely Christmas reds for me and Pauline (nonna57) from her overseas firms and they are reasonbly priced. Good luck in getting your threads, love Chris

What ever you do, do NOT be tempted to buy Dragon threads, usually sold in lots of 50 online through eBay. Nothing wrong with the actual threads and the colours are stunning, but the spools break leaving you with thread you can no longer use.

I buy Robinson Anton, from from Shoppersrule.com
I buy Madeira thread from Allstitch.net
I buy my metallic threads and topstitch needles from SuperiorThreads.com
Madeira is also available from Tajimaaustralia.com.au

I have heard that Marathon thread is very good and readily available from marathonaustralia.com.au but I personally have not used Marathon threads.

I hope some of these links help you. I still buy from most of my supplies from overseas because, even with freight costs, most items still work out far less costly than they are to buy here.
hugs n roses, M

PS. I just noticed your Question to Sandra about preferences. Rule of thumb is that Polyester thread should be used where an item is likely to be subjected to frequent laundering. Rayon thread is mostly used for Pictures, cushion covers, totes, etc.
I often use a combination of the two, but only if I don't have a particular colour I need in the thread I am using.

Hi Meganne Unfortunately i have been caught by the Dragon threads too and have lost a few by the reels breaking a pity as the thread it self is lovely, thank you for taking the time to answer me, hugs back, Betty

Hi Betty, I also buy my threads from Marathon. Have been dealiing with Suzi for a few years now, and every time I visit Melbourne I visit the warehouse and buy direct. She is always most accommodating and helpful. The threads stitch beautifully, and colours are fabulous. Pricing is good, also they can send you a colour chart, you can see all the products they sell online. I have two embroidery machines and have never had a problem with anything I have purchased. You will not be disappointed with the service and quality of Marathon goods. Sandra.

Do you use polyester or rayon?cheers

Yes I use both, for the reasons Meg has stated. Depending on what you are embroidering, actually both in one design to give depth in colour and also a faded looking area. I do use other brands and mix in shades, as sometimes you can find an odd bargain to two with discontinued colours. Never had any breakages or trouble with small or large cones. Hope this helps you, Sandra.

High Betty I am in Brisbane and I order mine on line from Marathon Australia in Melbourne 5,000 metres $8.80 1.000 metres $4.18 gst included. Shipping $13.50. Good service from Suzi here.
I am buying where ever possible the large reels as it makes it more cost effective.
Lincraft and Spotlight have threads as well.
Like you even in Brisbane so many Quilt shops closing down so have to search for supplies where the freight is less than the item.
Welcome to the Cute site lots of friendly help on here from all over the world.
