Nanny's Halloween Rocks. My artist friend, Nanny, paints smooth rocks and pebbles she finds in her yard for the trick-or-treaters that come to her door. She lives in a small town and at first just gave out a couple of dozen. She gave over 100 last time she and I talked about it. The kids are coming from far away now, as they've heard about the rocks. She does one design per year, so she gets pretty fast at painting that owl or spider or witch's hat. She says the children all run to her door early (in case she runs out) to find out what this year's rock will be and they all collect them from year to year. That candy you and I give out - gone within a week and forgotten forever!

I like to embroider "JESUS LOVES ME" on hand towels and hand them to kids at our church's TRUNK OR TREAT!!!!! I get all kinds of nice comments from people who got them the previous year.....and it feels good to spread the love of JESUS!!!!!

Sweet!

A very cool idea. This fall in our village, someone painted a bunch of rocks and they are hidden around town for the kids to find. They are supposed to take a picture of themselves with the rock where they found it. Then post it on the town's web site. They then are tasked with hiding the rock in another location. The kids have had a great time looking for these rocks! I don't know what there is about kids and rocks? Anyone remember "pet rocks?"

Boys and rocks especially. I had to "shake him" down every Sunday on the way into Sunday School. He would be digging his hands in his pockets and I'd say "Let's have them." He'd say "what" and I'd just hold out my hands. Then he would shrug and hand over the two rocks.

What a sweet idea. Every year I plan on stitching out pencil toppers to give out instead of candies. Never made it so far.
