This may look like a simple embroidery but it is actually a save. My first grade grandson phoned last night to tell me he was writing his first report and would be giving an oral presentation on the arctic fox. I wanted to surprise him by making an arctic fox tee to wear for the occasion. I had a navy tee shirt in his size and found this fox design at Emblibrary. I thought it was a filled stitch design but after downloading it I discovered that it was line art which meant that the navy would show through the parts that were not filled in. Rather than buy another design, I placed a piece of white knit fleece over the navy tee and treated it like an applique. I skipped ahead of the grass and came back after clipping the white fleece away and then stitched the grass. Who knew you could turn line art into an applique. Another save for my record!

Great job. I've used felt a few times to do stuff like that cause I didn't want to material to show. Great work and I'm sure he will just love it. Thanks for sharing your idea for us Cuties to think of next time we run across something like that. :

Felt would work well too. I thought it needed something with substance so that the lines would sink in and make the fabric pop out. The picture does not show it but it almost has a trapunto look to it. A flat cotton on the other hand would probably look very flat and show the frayed edges. Thanks for the idea of another option, Mechille.
