Cuties, every year a group from our church goes on missions. A day or two ago, a lady that went last year and is returning this year, came to ask me for a donation. It wasn't the usual money donation, to help fund their passage. It was something to do with sewing.

Last year while there, she met this baby/toddler and fell in love with the child and related her story to me and my husband. The child was born with a severe physical deformity, to put it mildly. She just found out the child also, is highly allergic to any clothing that is not 100% polyester. She asked if I could make her a few dresses to take when they go on the 22nd.

I told her I would, if I could get 100% polyester. Would that be like a jersey knit and double knit, like old leisure suits were made?

Last night one of the ladies told me she found out its not dresses they want for the child. It may be long sleeve coveralls, with snaps in the crotch. How in the world would I make this fit, as I have no measurement of height or width? They 'think' she made me a Toddler size 2.

She would get longer wear out of the loose dress, as she grows, because she will out grow the coverall, from shoulder to crotch, pretty quickly I would think.

Any input you can provide, I appreciate, about the fabric for sure. If you have any links to coverall patterns, please let me know. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks Toogie
Also, is fleece like from Walmart 100 % polyester? They are up in the mountains and it gets cold there.

Bless you . How do you do this to your self and we all know the answer! No way can you make a 1 piece garment without measurements. Make it two piece and hope for the best. I love your caring attitude. Kay

God bless you, Toogie, for your generous spirit & for using your many talents for the Lord's work.
Have you considered using microfiber sheets for the fabric? Many resale shops have whole sets as people don't like them for sleeping. They can be bought for a small price to practice on. You would then have access to multiple colors & pattern designs to make some of your gorgeous clothing designs.

I only have one micro fiber sheet but I didn't realize it was 100% polyester. Thanks for the info. Mine is white, so I will check out the thrift shop.

You have such a warm and giving heart, Toogie...so glad you have gotten clarification that any garment that is 100% polyester will work...as you have discovered, fleece is a good choice...and I agree a two piece outfit with longer length on the top and sleeves and legs would be a great choice...There are some free toddler pattern at Craftsy...

Toogie, hugs to you for helping to care for this child. I know you already have a lot on your plate. I hope you post what you are able to make so we can pray over the little garments and the child.

I give God the glory for any and everything He does, through me. He said to use our talents and if sewing is mine, looks like I'm in the right place here.
I have company coming after while for the evening meal. I'm through with my part salad and desert, DH is doing the main, but really can't get into sewing yet, as no time today. I did find some pink fleece today and it is 100% poly. I have to check my patterns out. I found out can be ANY clothing, just so its 100% polyester.

I think it would come out cheaper to check out Target or Walmart for pre-made 100% polyester for a baby. Also, think about maybe a Minky blanket. The child would still have that for years. Agree with jrob about two piece outfits fitting much longer. My younger son wore size 2 shorts for four summers, while his shirt size kept changing.

Sounds good and read below my response to jrob. Thanks

I'd make elastic waist pants and extra long tops like the tunics worn here. That way she won't outgrow the body length as quickly. Minky is 100% polyester and so are most fleece fabrics. Sorry, I don't have any patterns.

I've been looking in my patterns, but in the meantime contacted the member with the email. She said anything made out of 100% polyester. It didn't have to be a one piece. This lady said she is going to shop Monday or Tuesday, for something ready made. I told her I too, would see what I could come up with. Thanks for your ideas.

I went today and bought some fleece marked 100% polyester. As it is their winter now, I think I will make a 2 piece as you suggested, to get more wear. I am tempted to make the sleeves a tad longer than the 2 and the legs also. I told my DH they can roll them up a cuff if need be and maybe she will get 2 winters out of them.

Good idea!
