Hello Cuties! I had to sew today. I had the NEED to sew today, something that I would enjoy sewing.

I picked up 2 fat quarters Saturday, which is now the outer body of the bag, not knowing at the time what I would make with them. The steampunk wheels, circles, appealed to me. And then I like green. I just wish I had bought another fat quarter, for a wallet to match.

The bag pattern was free, from Jo Ann's, called The Fly Away bag. Check and see, it may still be there. The front and back are the same, but I show both sides in the first two photos.

You know I rarely make a bag just like the pattern. This pattern had no inside or outer pockets! What's a woman to do? So I made a zipper pocket inside, large enough to hold a wallet securely, as this bag has a magnetic snap closure. I also put a slip pocket and sewed in straight in the center, to divide (and maybe conquer!-lol) You can see my two lining pieces, with pockets in the 3rd pic.

I got my husband busy cutting me two 'bottoms' out of scrap formica he has. One was for this bag and also put one in the blue bag. I made a cover to slip it in and the last photo is it, in the bottom of the finished bag. Oh, I also put a little ring to hook your keys on, so you don't have to dig in the bottom or maybe loose them. Did I forget anything? Yes, my name. Can you believe?1//!! When I saw dragonflyer's comment in another post to me, it made me think of my name. She made my name for my wallets and Katydid made it for my bags...Now if I could just REMEMBER to emb them!!! Thank you Kim and Kay.

Hope you like this bag as much as I do.-Toogie

It probably would have held it all!
Talk about wad of money, I went to the supermarket the other day. I gave the cashier $100 bill. She left register and went to the service desk. She came back with a real wad! I said oh no, I can't get that in my wallet. Told her I'd write a check then to not hold up the line any longer, I took the wad to service desk. A girl was there when the cashier went but a guy when I went. I told him I just needed my 100 dollars back because I couldn't get this in my wallet. When he recounted the wad I gave him, he stopped at 50 ones and shaking his head said, you gotta be kidding!
When he asked how I wanted my 100 in twenties or the 100 I burst out laughing!
Maybe that was all the poor girl could count by. If so, she doesn't need to handle money!

sllakin, I want to say I used Pellon 809 on my main outer pieces and both outer bands. I also used it in my pockets, for body. I made the strap 6 in, they say 8 inches, but that's too wide. The 6 inch made a 1 1/2 in strap, which to me is ALMOST too wide.
Be sure to show us yours when you get them made. I love purses!!!

No not really, this was a pattern, except for the lining but thanks! Glad you love it, I love this fabric and wish it was by the yard and not a FQ.

Excellent bag. I lie the formica for the bottom and the sides are tucked. Very nice.

Thanks Christine,if someone doesn't like the flat, stiff bottom, they can always take it out, but it does make it sit well.

Awe,shucks, t'weren't nothin'-lol
Thanks Kim. You think it would be okay to emb my trademark on the band? I think I could do that but I usually put it lower toward bottom and inconspicuous.

dragonflyer by dragonflyer 03 Jun 2017

Absolutely okay to put your "trademark" on the band...put it anywhere you want...put it in both places!

Another outstanding bag Toogie, but I have to admit I love all your bags. Great idea adding the bit of wood to the base to give it stability and also a place with a zip to keep wallets etc. Lovely work, love Chris

I prefer a bag that the body zips. However, when that is not the case and I use a magnetic closure, I add an inside zipper pocket that is large enough for the largest wallets, like my tri-fold ones. The formica I used in the bottom is actually thin countertop, but strong, and not heavy. Thanks Chris-T

Thanks and I do love this print. I just happened to have on hand the fabric for the band and also the inside fabric. Remember the monogrammed crossbody bags I made out of the fabric like the lining?
