Looks real pretty Carolyn.... I don't know what it means, but it's pretty.
Carolyn, we've always heard that when there's a "sun dog" (rainbow around the sun) it's a sign of hot weather to come. Today in Oliver it was 31C at 5:00 pm. We were on the road for most of the day taking a friend to an eye specialist in Kelowna so I have no idea how high the temperature was during the day. I do know we were very thankful to have a/c in the car!! Blessings to you, Avis
God is in His heaven and all is right in your world.

There was a saying my Dad taught me that went:
"Rainbow at night is the Shepherds delight, rainbow in the morning is the Shepherds warning."
Which translated to: it would rain that day if there was a rainbow in the morning, but it would be rain free the next day if there was a late afternoon rainbow.
I have no idea where this came from or how accurate it was but it always sounded so good. hugs, M
Sounds akin to the sailor saying: Red sky at night, sailor's delight; red sky at morning, sailor's warning. (of bad weather ahead)
Gorgeous! Lucky you for seeing it up close and personal! Thanks for sharing your picture.
it's beautiful!!
And to answer the question:
It’s commonly referred to as a 22-degree halo, or a sun halo.
A 22-degree halo is created by tiny ice crystals in high cirrostratus clouds. The sunlight refracts through the ice at a 22 degree angle, creating the halo effect.
And it's wonderful to see indeed :)
