What a beautiful place they have. Very impressive. I could pray that Klaus will find a buddy he just can't bear to leave? lol
Can you please explain as to why there are so many Pugs at the Rescue Home?
Here in Australia they are an expensive dog to buy especially from a breeder $300 to $600.
Are these from what we call puppy farms? terrible people who just breed and breed for the money.
I am so impressed with the area they have lots of grass and not in cages with concrete floors all the time.
This surely is a labour of love for the carers.
I thought the price you mentioned was very low so I checked the net for the price of a Pug puppy it is now $1500 - $2000 . I am also amazed that there are so many Pugs needing new homes because they are a easy care breed only needing the folds around the eyes attended to daily.
I will try and explain what I know. In Johannesburg there are rescue centers for main breeds and Pug Rescue is one of them. There are many reasons for dogs being at these homes. People leaving for new countries. Elderly people having to go to retirement homes and no pets allowed. As with all of us, dogs age, and it is amazing how many people don't want their old pugs anymore. Dogs are found in plastic bags, in refuse bins.
We also have breeders we call them puppy mills. Their bitches are kept in cages and just used as breeding machines. These people pay no tax, they are not interested in what happens to their hundreds of puppies that they breed. If people would stop buying puppies the puppy mills would stop. Here in South Africa we need to get across the importance of having a dog sterilized.
What a paradise for these dogs. I wish all dogs had a place like this. My brother and SIL have 3 pugs. They are the funniest dogs I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.
What a beautiful complex...I know they are so appreciative of all that you do for their fund raising efforts, too...
Looks like a nice, well kept, place. I do believe there are pugs everywhere! How did you find Keenu there, as he is not a pug?
When I lost my last pekingese, we tried not to have another dog. It did not work. I searched the Internet for rescue pekes and Pug Rescue came up. I searched through endless pugs and right at the bottom with a couple of other pekes was Keenu. It was love at first sight. I flew to Johannesburg to meet him and the rest is history.
never seen it like this, good to see the dogs even can walk free, it looks like a good place to be. Thank you for sharing, hugs )))
