I had some time to myself today so created these sweet little lovebirds.Thinking these will look cute on a zip pouch or maybe a pillowcase border. I made 2 sizes.

The original clipart came from clipartopolis.com but I have altered it a little.
Something is going on at the top of the heart (not sure why) and I think I should to change the fill for the eyes, what do you think?

Nice job, Karryn...I would suggest perhaps you use a one candlewick for the eye...or convert it to a satin fill...the blip on the heart appears to be where the heart starts and stops (?)...if it is, I would suggest you move the start/stop to the bottom of the heart...also, just as a suggestion...if you look at the tail "feathers" you notice how small the stitches are around the curve...I believe it is because you have too many curve points to make the curve of each tail "feather"...if you look at them using the "reshape" tool, you may see how close they are...this software treats left click (straight points) and right click (curved points) a bit differently in the stitch spacing...when making curves, try using only as many right click curve points as you actually need..this will help you better regulate the size of the stitches...hope this makes sense...Also...I would highly recommend you check into taking the teaching webinars that Trevor Conquergood teaches...He is a wonderful teacher and an expert with Janome and other softwares...I take his classes myself and have for a few years. His website is Sunset Stitches...

Thank you Kim, I like that idea na will move the start stop to see if that helps. I didn't know that about the right clicks and stitch number. Makes sense now when I look at the stitches.
I have managed to find some of Trevor Conquergood's videos and they are helpful. His lessons are next on my wish list.

Not sure, but his startup Version 5 video may come with your software...

Pretty design!

Could the little something on the heart be the start and endpoint of the stitching - that gives a little knot starting and finishing.
I don't know what software you are using. In Embird I digitised a little filled circle like Meganne showed and saved that in the Shapes folder; so whenever I need a small (or larger) dot or oval I get it from there. To save it there: save in Embird64/EDStudio/Library/'new-file' - originally there's Basic and Badges. I made quite a few more, one of them containing the simple dot. In 6D you can do something similar and I bet in other software there's also a way to have quick access without using the merge feature.

Do you remember the name of this Clipartopolis set - I made those birds some time ago but can't remember where I saved them :(

Thank you, yes that is what I am thinking too. I thought I had fixed it, but obviously not when I look at the stitchout.
I like the idea of having a little dot/eye digitised so it is at the ready. I will try that next.
I think the set the birds came from is called spring time. it saved as SPT-150582. I tried searching for it over at clipartopolis but i could not find it. I just had them in my clipart folder.

Thank you, I found the set as 0755-SpringTime. And then discovered why they looked familiar: I had digitised 4 of them, including these birds. Had forgotten all about them.

These are cute little lovebirds! I think the eyes look good as they are. I see what you mean at the top of the heart, but I'm sure you will figure that out. This will be a cute and useful little design. Nice job.

Cute little birds.

Eyes can be a problem when they are so small, you could try creating them with manual stitches criss-crossed (like candlewick stitches) that way you can put as many, or as few, stitches as you are happy with.

Not being aware of your digitising experience I will risk sharing mine with you........

Depending on the size, I will often use a column stitch......
Place top two stitches close together, place next two (curved) stitches wider apart, then next two stitches same distance apart as top two
I have added a picture below so you can see where the points (BLUE marks) are placed. The largest circle is 1 inch, the smallest 1/4". all were done individually to show you how well they turn out.
Of course you can always make them large enough to see them, then reduce to the size you need and reduce the density accordingly.

hugs n roses, M

Thanks so much Meganne. I am just learning and playing with my software now that I finally have a bit more time. I am a digitising newbie. I have janome pro/mb but have the update to version 5 coming tomorrow.
The eyes are making a knot on the back bigger than I would like, but I have not digitised anything that small before.
I have not heard of column stitch is that something on embird or just the way you set the stitches to embroider? Are you describing making a star type shape with the stitches but in a circle, so it is raised in the centre???
Thank you

Column stitch is the zigzag stitch - used for letters, applique, flower stems, to name just a few. It works well for ovals and dots if you start narrow, widen and get narrow again.

Thank you I will go and have a look

I think they are referring to satin stitch columns....
