UPDATE BELOW-Yea! I got my origami candle mat made! Thanks fellow Cuties for links and encouragements.

I did one thing wrong. I ironed Pellon 809 on both, the green squares and the red & white dot squares, so all 24 squares have interfacing/stabilizer. It sure stands up well!-lol-

I also stitched a center seam on the under side, like the info from fireyphoenix .com said. That I may not would do, if I made another one, because looks like Cutie baunlester didn't stitch bottom on hers. Hers lies flat on the table, while mine stands on point. To prove it can stand alone look at last photo I put for fun. I have it over the glass candlestick.

Very easy to make and I hope others make some too.-Toogie

UPDATE- So many have asked about information on this.Google origami candle mat, from the fiery phoenix. When you get to the Fiery Phoenix there will be a link, if I remember right, to a template for sewing lines on where to sew the squares together. Print the template out to go by. Also, on Utube type in origami candle mat and they show you how to assemble. Very easy and pretty as well. Then post here to show us what fabrics you used!-Toogie

That is beautiful, I love it both ways, on point and lying flat. Where can I find the directions? I'd like to make one for me and my grandkids are learning to sew. I think this could be a good project (with lots of help) for them. They want to sew clothing and I know people who did that and never wanted to sew again !

This would be just sewing squares, at first, and turning right side out. I think with guidance from you they could make it.
Google origami candle mat from the fiery phoenix. When you get to the Fiery Phoenix there will be a link, if I remember right, to a template for sewing lines on where to sew the squares together.
Yes, encourage them all you can so they won't quit before they start sewing. Good luck!-Toogie

I love it both ways. Where did this come from? Is it made of squares of fabric? Seems like I've seen something like this at Nancynotions but unsure. Like very much both ways.

Look on UTube origami candle mat- It is squares of fabric and you can make them any size, I'm sure, but just so they are all the same size. I ironed Pellon 809 to ALL my squares but I think Sue said I should have only ironed on one color. Anyway, mine really has body!

toogie by toogie 30 Dec 2016

You don't need a pattern, just cut a square.

toogie by toogie 31 Dec 2016

You do need the template to show you where to sew the squares together, though!!!! Look at the Fiery Phoenix site, origami candle mat!!!

I told my daughter I couldn't sleep, so this is what you can make, on those nights. I would like to see you make one, but I hope you don't have any sleepless nights.

I just looked at yours. Some don't have as many squares. Are those squares bigger or is the angle different? I still think I like your Oct 27 one best.

That looks fabulous. I didn't stitch the extra seam on mine, but I like the effect that it has given yours.
Hope you don't plan to light the candle. I have a battery operated one in mine.

No I won't light it. This is the bottom of a heavy crystal candle holder, I'll have to get something else for it.
I don't know if its the top stitch in the under fold or the extra Pellon that makes it stand like it does. When I walk away and look at it, it reminds me of a huge spider with many legs about to crawl away.-lol
