Hi Chris this is just STUNNING cant wait to see the finished project next week...lol......soozie
In ya dreams Soozie! It's going to be an ongoing project for quite a while! Love Chris
looks great ! What is the size of the hope you are using ? I notice you have a brother -, what kind of type ? Innovis...
Thanks Linda and I used the 235 x 255 hoop - quite large. Yes, it is the Brother Quattro 2 Innovis 6700D. It's a beautiful machine. Love Chris
Beautiful blocks Chris--I am with Dragonflyer--I ,at first, did not notice how much fabric was hooped so rehooping and doing the right side of the design would be easier. Although, I am saying this and haven't played much with realigning designs. Larger chunks of fabric would result in not having a seam run down the center. I can not wait to see it finished though. Lovely.
Thanks Patty, I wish I had thought of that first, but wanted to sew it out and I've put the two sides together now. Never mind, maybe next time. Love Chris
I'm posting again, Chris...I still think you should use a larger piece of fabric...one enough to stitch the entire block....and hoop twice...it would be so much easier than hand stitching the half blocks together and you wouldn't have that seam down the center...and don't you have the Brother machine with the scanner....so much easier to align the embroidery design in the hoop than to hand stitch...just sayin'...
Thanks Kim, if there is a scanner with this machine I don't know how to use it! I've already done this piece anyway. I'll keep it in mind for more of the designs. Thanks for taking the time to comment again. Love Chris
I love this! Your design looks great on that fabric. I would never have thought of putting a design on an existing print like that.
Hugs, Nadyne
Thanks Nadyne, as it is only in white it does look good. I wouldn't put it on any other kind of fabric. I usually do designs on plain fabric. Love Chris
That's look excellent beautiful cant wait to see the finishing of that beautiful quilt.Good Luck
It looks absolutely fabulous, so far. Good luck with the rest of it. I am sure you will be making things for your group and your family in between now and when this is finished. Just love Navy & White.
Thanks Patricia, me too. Always looks smart. I am sure it's going to be a long project though! Luv Chris
it's going to be very stylish, and if you start in the centre and then get sick to death of sewing it out you can then modify your design. Look forward to seeing the finished article early next year.
Ha ha ha Vicki, early next year, I don't think so! I'm not sure how long this is going to take me to make. Love Chris
Just beautiful Chris can't wait to see the finished quilt VaL
I live in south australia and we have just used the pin spot to do chicken scratch on and is was lovely.
Thanks Dixie, I'm from South Australia too! Lived in Glenelg till 10, then in Reynella till 19 and got married and lived in Norwood just up the road from Penfold's winery. With our last name being Pennifold we got great table service at local restaurants because they thought we were of the Penfold family he he he! Love Chris
It is/will be beautiful, Chris! This block design is gorgeous on the navy! I wonder if it would be as dramatic, with navy threads on white, just the reverse? I do think with that many stitches you should re-think, maybe do it the quilt as you go, like some of the other Cuties, and really be done with it when you finish. It will be and IS lovely, whatever you decide.-Toogie
Thanks Toogie, no I'm going to do this the traditional way. I have metres of batting that Meg and I paid for and when it goes to the quilter she will use it. It's going to be a long project I am certain!. I will have some reverse navy on white but haven't got any nice white cotton as yet. I bought metres of navy and white pin spot and navy and white stripe fabric yesterday from Spotlight here in Newcastle, so it's onto the next design! Love Chris
This will be gorgeous. I admire your commitment!
It will be a beautiful quilt by the time you finish it.
I have done most of them!!!!They stitch out Stunning....Gorgeous
Have you put yours together in a quilt Sonja? I think this is going to be a long project! Love Chris
Have you thought of doing one half of the design then re hooping and doing the other half? obviously using a wider piece of fabric. Love the design you have chosen.
No I didn't think of that doh!!!! That would have been the best solution. Thanks for the idea! Love Chris
Don't waste what you have done if you can get a white with Navy spots and do the design in navy to make a cushion.
Chris, I am sure you were very keen to get started. You do such fabulous work. So just this once you are allowed to not be "perfect".
(Very tongue in cheek!)
Thanks very much Patricia for the lovely compliment. Although It does frustrate me when things are not perfect. I did an OCD test on Facebook this week and I got 100% now what does that tell you about me?????? Love Chris
Lovely work Chris. Looking forward to seeing more. Hugs
Thank you Shirley. Been thinking of you and your family. How did the funeral go? Love Chris
this is going to be lovely Chris. having just finished mine, you have lots of stitching to do,
have fun,
hugs
Michelle
This is a beautiful design and your choice of fabric is great. I hope you are able to get more. Kay
If you can't match your fabric, please don't lose hope. Think of alternating blocks of white-on-white with navy stitches. Beautiful start to an heirloom!
I'm already doing that Awesome, I will be having a few different fabrics in the quilt - all navy and white combinations. Love Chris
That's a lovely design, Chris. I hope you get your fabric!
Awesome, can't wait to see the whole block. Was it 34,000 for the whole side or per block? This will be stunning.
The 34,000 was for the whole block, but as you can see there are two - so the next half will be as long in time as well! Love Chris
Oh my! That is a fabulous quilt block! Worth every second of your time. I did find a fabric once eleven years after I bought the original piece. However, the dye lot was off just enough to be noticeable. Take this piece to the store with you so that you get a good match.
I too enjoy knowing the specifics as to how you complete this block. Will you just stitch a seam down the middle to join? Or do you plan to use a whole cloth technique? Are you using batting and stabilizer? I have dreams of doing what you are doing, but have no clue where to start.
Hi Penny, I'll be sewing a seam down the centre for this particular block. I've used 2 layers of tear away stabliiser as the backing and will be making the batting separately. I will one day do a quilt as you go in the hoop, but not for this quilt. Thanks, love Chris
Great work looking forward to seeing the finished quilt
Thanks Carol, this might be one of those projects that takes a few months to do! Love Chris
This will be absolutely beautiful. Your work and Darleens.
It's lovely, Chris...it looks like half of the block...but it doesn't look like you have enough fabric on the right to match and embroider the other half...am I missing something?
Hi Kim, no this is just one half of the block I wanted to do the whole thing but I don't have a hoop wide enough to do it as a whole, bummer. I will be making another half and sewing it down the centre! It's going to be a huge quilt! Love Chirs
Ah...when I have done these, I have just hooped twice and matched up the second hooping design to match the first...never thought of stitching the halves together to make the complete block...How do you plan to match up the run stitches without cutting off part of the flower buds when you stitch the seam to join the blocks?
Hi Kim, I am hand-stitching the pieces together first and so far there is no problem with matching up the flower buds. I'll post a picture when I'm finished. Love Chris
Beautiful stitching. Good luck finding matching material. This would turn out to be a awesome quilt.
Thanks Angie, it will be wonderful once finished, just lots of sewing and time!!!! Love Chris
It looks great! I would love to have machine for big hoop too. It looks like big fun...
Thanks Bejoscha, I think having a big hoop is great, but there is always a design which will need a bigger hoop!!!! This is meant to be made in a hoop larger than what I have!!! Love Chris
Chris, this is going to be a huge task, looking great so far. A very interesting design,I presume this is only 2 blocks of 4. I am sure it will look stunning, can't wait to see the finished quilt. Happy stitching. Sandra.
Yes Sandra, you are right, this is only 2 of the 4! It's going to be a large block! Love Chris
Nice job.... you could always just use it as a pillow cover if you can't find any more material like it.... Keep up the good work. Mechille
XLNT!!! My heavens you're ambitious, LOL!!!
As if you don't already have enough to keep five women busy! :-)
Go for it BFF, I'll look forward to seeing it when I next visit. hugs, M
Thanks Meg, nothing like diving in the deep end eh? It's going to be an ongoing project and will take me a long time to finish, but it's good to know I've got all the designs, love Chris
