I finally finished making The Necessary Clutch Wallet & boy it is not one for the faint of heart! by that I mean your machine......it is quite thick on the sides so a real challenge to get under & stitch up the sides. I broke only one needle doing them & switched to a denim one & it seemed ok but it was a struggle to stitch with the new machines. I have an old work horse metal Janome & it can handle the bulk no problem but the Janome sewing/embroidery machine was a challenge for sure! I finally got to use the Bosal in this clutch & now I have learned that Pellon makes a batting like this too. I am going to have check out JoAnn's to see what their's is like? I did add a few bits to this wallet because I have heard others say that it pours open the mintue you open it so I added bungee style cords in the inside as well as the Velcro strap to hold my cell phone in safely, I also changed where the magnetic closure goes to allow for more room on the inside.I put it closer to the top instead of the 2.5" away I placed it 1.5". It is quite sturdy but remarkable light..........well @least while it is empty lol.Of course adding a little bling makes it look nicer too. I recycled an old purse & used the metal Multi Sack bit to the top of this. I am already thinking about the next set of fabrics I will choose to make another lol

Beautiful.........I love your fabric too. You added a lot of extras to yours to make it even more practical.
You did a great job on it.

This is fantastic. I admire anyone that is able to finish this as I have heard also it is not for the faint hearted. Having a good strong machine also helps with making these too. Love the colours you have chosen and your added modifications are brilliant

Great job Loralye, fabulous looking clutch. My Janomes have the extra lift that accommodates the bulk, don't know about the lower end machines though. Love Janome machines!

I do too but my Janome 9900 struggled with the bulk until I changed to a 16 needle was ok but I went very slowly. Not the workhorse my Industrial one is that seems much better. Thanks

Wonderful job Loralye! Your new clutch looks terrific. I know what you mean about how challenging some of these projects can be. Just trying to manipulate them enough to go under your machine's sewing arm can feel like a wrestling match. I recently made a train case that was so stiff I had a tough time getting it far enough under the arm to stitch the final seams.

I'm sure your next clutch will be even easier, now that you've finished the first one. Can't wait to see it.

Wow a challenge indeed, glad you were able to manipulate it enough to get it under. I did have to use the stitch ripper a time or two since I missed catching the sides twice lol I am hoping the next ones will be easier too lol ~hugs~

I am not really qualified to make comment on your completed clutch wallet but I'm going to anyway! It is absolutely brilliant and clearly shows the extent of patience and skill that you had to put in to your work. The only problem you will have when out and about with your new wallet will be the number of people wanting to place an order..................I see that Chris has already got her order in! Beautiful job.

Looks very well sewn. You did a great job. I know what you mean with the combo machines not being able to handle sewing over a thicker seam.

pldc by pldc 17 Aug 2016

thank you so very much, I think the heavy machines meaning those made of steel no plastic (fiberglass) are easier todo this amount of bulk. I even trimmed everything 1/4" less batting & stabilizers so the seams wouldn't be as bulky

I changed the bungee cords to go @ the top to support the weight of my cell phone & I used invisible thread so it would not show on the front of the clutch. This works really well & they aren't in the way of the zipper or card slots
