I should have listen to all of you..... I made a bid in ebay ult Brother 2001 and I won !!!!! the machine arrived two days ago. and it was not what it says. Many pieces are missing, even the electric cord. so I have no idea if it works or not. Even a foot is broken. on the plastic section looks like a rusted metal was on it and it has rust. I am not going to touch it. I have many sewing machines and never have that problem. Now I sent request to rerun pray that i could do it please. so disappointed and sad.

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. My first machine was a 4x4 and I worked that poor machine to death. I love it and sewed/emb almost daily for 10 years.
When I was looking for a 5x7. Went to Craig's List, Never shopped there before. A woman had one 2 hours drive away, but I wanted to 'see' it or test drive , if you know what I mean. I didn't want to buy sight unseen for the reason you got now. Hubby didn't grumble too much and so glad I went. Never bought, because it was knocking like something had broke or was fixing to break. I never got it. We ate out so it wasn't a wasted drive-lol-
Then I found my second 'look see' on Craigs list again. I bought my Brother PE750D from a 'little ole lady' still over one hour away. When I asked to see how it embroidered, SHE demonstrated and explained to ME (like I didn't know). She was so particular, I knew it had to be taken care of. When I confessed I had a small 4x4 and showed her how to adjust the positioning on the screen, she was amazed. Poor lady had been either emb the design and then cutting out the bib or hooping and re-hooping until she got it where she wanted. No reason she gave up!-lol-She emb bibs for the church christenings. That's all she ever emb on it and she had the cross designs, too. I got it for a song and she gave me the card and writer box & program too. We have emailed each other and became friends over the last 3 years, since I bought it. (I also bought the old treadle machine from her last year.)
I haven't ever bought from ebay, so maybe others can help you and see if anything can be done. I do wish you luck, though. I hate when people take advantage of others. Good luck-Toogie

Oh Mary I feel for you. Sadly my dealer has stories of machines bought on ebay coming to him for repair when the reality is they are worn out and beyond repair. Don't know how ebay with you works but COMPLAIN LONG AND LOUD. Good Luck

Yes definitely file a complaint with eBay and PayPal if you paid via PayPal as item not as described.Take screenshots of the product listing if it is not too late. You may have to pay return post.
I had a bad experience with a coffee machine hubby just had to have on eBay. Purchased it on my account after verifying with seller machine was in "excellent" condition. It arrived with screws missing and the bean chute was broken and superglued together. When seller tried to claim damage had happened in transit, I queried how it managed to glue itself together! I had taken photos as I unpacked the coffee machine and sent them to eBay and PayPal with a screenshot of the listing and emails sent by seller. I managed to get my money back but had to pay for packing and return postage! About $60. The seller then Advertised same machine a week later for more and sold it. Nothing I could do for the poor unsuspecting soul who bought it as the seller had covered up the damage by filling the chute with free coffee beans for buyer!

In Australia,if you can only shop at a Sewing Machine shop, our best time is before Mothers day ( 2nd Sunday in May ). If you can go to the Stitches & Craft Shows in the Capital Cities, they often release new machine models and have the past models on a great sale. I would only by a second hand machine if I new the owner, and would how much it has been used. I have a 7x5 hoop a it does challenge you with re-hooping to get the design stitched.Lots of digitizes do 7x5 split designs for larger designs. Janette

Here in Australia ,I have bought my machines at Craft shows where all the different makers are showing their latest machines usually with show special prices or deals. If you buy ,you pay & pick the machine up at the dealer you nominate ,in about 2 weeks time.Sometimes if a certain brand is holding classes at the show ,the machines used there are available at a reduced price ,at the end of the show.

We got a discount on my machine because it had been used for one of the dealer's classes so it couldn't be sold as brand new. They forgot to put the power cord back in the box, kinda hilarious, but when i went back to get it they also gave me a percent off of some thread. Ha :P

Also around christmas time they were giving something like $2000 or $1200 off for a trade in

I, too, would watch for a trade in at your dealer's. At least then it's covered for any repairs needed.

I've bought a Bernina on ebay and was very happy with it. But when I was shopping for a newer machine, I too was very stunned at the prices of the machines that had bigger hoops. I guess it is an enticement for you to spend more money. If you can find a Bernina 180 or 200, you'll get a 6.10x7.87 in the larger hoop for a lot less money. Make sure you get all the attachments that go with it and all the hoops. There should be 3 of them.

I bought both of my embroidery machines on ebay with wonderful results. Of course, I had to be very careful and avoid scams but the sellers and I both got fair prices. Good luck.

I agree, definitely go to your local dealers and talk to them. they always have trade-ins that they sell very reasonably. Plus they will give you support and instructions. We all prefer our own machines (mine are Babylock) but let's be reasonable. You need to be able to get to your technician to keep your machine maintained. So check out all the brands you have access to, talk to your dealers and techs and make your choice. Please do not buy from the internet. You can never be sure what you are getting. Let us know when you buy a new machine so we can celebrate with you.

Dealers will get new machine models in before Christmas. Some dealers allow a trade in toward the new models and then have low-use, nice used machines they are eager to be done with! Can you wait for early November? Meanwhile, be researching which brand. (Love my Janome and my Brother.... If I had to choose one, it would be a tough choice, but might be the Brother for ease of use and staying in proper tension despite very much wear and tear.)
