I had to put my thinking cap on for this one. I have seen this type of doll and decided I should use what I have and see what I could come up with . I drew up a pattern , figured out what had to go into the hoop and where . Since this is for a 1 year old , I didn't want any embellishments , so I had to keep it clean and simple. The dolls faces are from Embroidery Library. I found a pattern on the web for something a little different , all links are below. Thanks for looking

My mother in law had the American South version of this doll. One half was the white mommy in her dress and the other half was the black mammy who took care of her just as much! The mammy had a red dress with shawl and matching calico head scarf. She loved that doll.

I think you did a wonderful job and the one year old will love her! I wouldn't mind making one of these myself. I know my almost 3 yr old would love her. She loves her babies! Mom says she talks to them all the time. Even told one of them she was the ugly baby because she heard Papa say that's an ugly doll- oh my!
