this set is so beautiful !!! it's still so gorgeous , you wouldn't tell it's 10 years old.
Glad you have shown this. Wendy Schoen and Martha Pullen have lovely heirloom designs. I, too, have purchased from them. Your hand work is gorgeous as is the whole set. Glad you were able to use it again. It is expensive to sew in the heirloom style--all the laces, trims, ribbons etc. You will have beautiful photographs to remember the day.
You're right about it being costly to SEW heirloom, but still cheaper than BUYing heirloom, that is if you can find any. I know my SIL got someone to use their camera & take some pictures for them. I have some of Avery and Nora, when they wore it, so I hope I'll get some of Gus. I had a subscription for Sew Beautiful and always enjoyed my magazines, because you did get full size patterns with them. I especially enjoyed the earlier, heirloom styles and not so much the newer articles.
That is so very nice and so beautiful. You do so lovely things for babies.Great work Stella
Thank you Stella. I do so much enjoy making for babies, especially little girls, with all the laces, trims, etc, but sure is more expensive to sew for them. Now that we have embroidery machines, its easier to make nice things for the boys, too.
Hi Toogie,
thanks for sharing this Beautiful dedication gown. I had to make a Baby dress and you inspired me to use the same designs. I'm still working on my dress but I used the machine embroidery designs and they turned out great! Thanks for sharing and doing such a Beautiful gown!
Oh, do let us see your finished dress! I love making baby clothes, don't you? If you're new here, don't be shy posting projects or comments. We give flowers to you (see by your name) for your comments or post, we read. Welcome to Cute and thanks for your comments on my gown.-Toogie
Beautiful and sewn with love
You got that right! Thanks for looking and commenting. Enjoy another flower -Toogie
You know there aren't enough adjectives to describe the beauty of this Toogie. Your work is exquisite and will last for yrs to come. I'm glad I had my girls in the era I had them. As babies they all wore beautiful little pastel colored Batiste dresses, hand made in the Philippines. With lace, embroidery and tucks. Beautiful! Those little dresses and diaper shirts today sell for $75 - @100.00 and back then they were so cheap. I'll never get use to the way they dress babies these days. My Grand mother tatted hats and booties . you don't see things like that anymore.. There are people who can sew most anything and then there those who have a natural talent. You have that talent!!/ Lillian
Oh Lillian, I think I might cry...thank you. I too hate when parents try to make the babies or toddlers look.....well you know what I mean. One thing good about my daughters, They loved to dress their babies like babies. I was so glad too. Only thing is, sometimes I couldn't keep up-lol- Avery's mom spends hours looking and marking with post-it notes, in my Sew Beautiful magazines, things she'd like made.
She is the one picked this out to be stitched in blue just like in the magazine. I think the article about the pattern, was in Issue #80. I purchased the pattern separately. I purchased these tatting laces from the Smocking Bonnet, if memory serves me, but I would have loved to have been taught tatting by your grandmother!
Avery and Nora both wore Ashley's Feltman Brother dresses, she wore as a baby. I saved them and we still are saving them. My favorite for Ashley was in pale pink, with the tiniest tucks all along the top, of the little dress neck. It was embroidered in white and had scallops of lace, at the hem. The matching slip had them too, but was sleeveless and buttoned at the shoulder. She also had a pink sailor dress trimmed with white, I loved to put on her chubby little body.-lol-Thanks for taking me down memory lane and your sweet comments-Toogie
All I can say is BEAUTIFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exquisite! You always make suck lovely items. What an heirloom. Happy Mothers day to you too.
This set is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! With love sewn into every single stitch! Your hand work is so perfect. Machine work would not compare to it. I hope you get to see more babies blessed while wearing this wonderful heirloom. Happy Mother's Day to you and all the other ladies on this site.
You're right about the love sewn into each stitch. If its packed away, until my grand daughter Nora has children, I'm afraid I won't see them wear it. We will see....
Toogie, This is a beautiful set and a family heirloom that you have created. I love your story, and know that your family treasures you and your work. Happy Mother's Day. --Sharon
They do seem to... most times-lol- Thank you Sharon for enjoying my post.-Toogie
How nice that you sewed it so me time ago and that you keep on using it. I love these type of stories. It is also a very nice dress. Hope you can keep using it many times
I will be having my first great-grandchild, in a few months time. My daughter has agreed, if my grandson's wife wants to use it for their baby she can. Such a shame to pack it up, and never enjoy seeing another baby wear it. I will probably be dead, before my grand daughter Nora has children to use it.........
I can see It was labour of love to create , and still is. A treasured family heirloom. Just adorable, Toogie. Well done. Sandra.
After reading the comment and your responses I cannot come up with a better word than what has been said 'Priceless'..
As much as I enjoy my embroidery machine and the quickness to finish a project, I will always think hand embroidery is so so much more.. But then it was my first love from a child.
Yours is absolutely gorgeous.. definitely a family heirloom
When it comes to heirloom sewing, nothing beats hand embroidery, I agree. It does take more time, but time well spent.
He was so good today and looked just like the baby he is. Precious..
I think dragonflyer took my exact thought. This is priceless!!! What a wonderful gown to wear on such a special occasion. I have never seen one this pretty and you did it by hand.
Yes, I did and still remember how my neck burned each night when I fell into bed-lol- I only had a few weeks to make it and most of my supplies I ordered online, like the tatting, fabrics, entredeaux, etc so I had to wait for shipments. Thank you for your appreciation-Toogie
Toogie...gorgeous, timeless, exquisite...and truly a treasure that has been passed from child to child...and it will be for generations to come...I have no words that can truly describe what a precious treasure thisis...PRICELESS is the only thing that comes to mind...
Well, I do think you like it-lol-thank you so much for the appreciation of my work and love for my family....Priceless is a good word, as I've often said, I don't think you could pay me to make another! My neck burned for stitching long hours. Oh well, we have this to enjoy and photos of each baby in it.-Toogie
I bought the CD from Martha Pullen Co. Your result is prettier than I remember the package being! Have a lovely mom/baby day.
Not because I did it, but the hand embroidery did look nicer. I stitched the machine designs on the sheer fabric scraps...there is no comparison. Thanks for looking-Toogie
This is truely wonderful - a real treasure and your family will always keep it as a very, very special gift. Thanks for sharing - and have a great Mother's day! Maria
If no one uses it until Nora has children, I probably won't live to see any baby in it again. I do hope they appreciate the love I stitched it with. Thanks Maria-Toogie
This is gorgeous, what a family treasure.
Thank you for looking. Ten years ago it cost quite a bit to make. I wonder what it would cost now....
Toogie, the set is stunning! You made yourself a lot of work but it was really worth.
Happy Mother's Day.
Hugs, Angelika
I made it out of love, as you couldn't pay me enough to make another one by hand-lol...unless it was for a great-grandchild.........
A true work of art!
Hugs, Roberta
Thank you Roberta. I jokingly call it my masterpiece. I probably won't make another like it anymore.
IT'S JUST PERFECT TOOGIE! A wonderful heirloom to be passed on down the generations. Have a wonderful dedication day and also a happy Mother's Day. Love Chris
Thank you Chris. I am assuming since Nora is the only girl of Ashley's to bear children, she will get it when she does....I made one for a friend of Ashley's. It was not as elaborate as this, but it was what she wanted. She used it for all her kids, too. I should post it, but my photos of it aren't that great.-Toogie
Oh, Toogie, this is exquisite! What a wonderful heirloom/tradition you've created! I have this CD and have yet to get up the nerve to tackle such a huge project like you have done! Bravo to you and a Happy Mother's Day to you. too! Hugs, Deb
Thank you so much. To be honest, I tried the CD designs on my scraps. The fabric is very fine like handkerchiefs...I liked the hand emb better, and although it was very time consuming, it was worth it.
