Calling all Aussie Cuties. I'm in a bit of a pickle. I was given 4 boxes of embroidery thread by the ladies of our church after my 1st stroke. Using my machine became therapy for me. I desperately need your "used" thread cones size doesn't matter can use 1000m or 5000m cones, or even serger thread cones. As you can see in photos mine are cracked and very brittle. I will pay for the postage. I you can help me please sent a PM. Thanks for reading Marian

I've put some into the post for you today. It'll be interesting to see what kind of condition they arrive in -the lady at the PO was concerned that the envelope may not be tough enough, but I had at least lined it with a recycled padded bag. Time will tell :)

I agree with the plastic tubing & I have done this as well as duck tape the bottoms on a couple that I have dropped. I used my drill to slowly rewind onto another spool, a real time saver & go on the slowest speed but it worked for me quite well, Best of luck ~hugs~

Yes I agree the drill is the way to go for winding, by hand takes so long. A big thank you needs to be given to Meganne's husband for coming up with the idea of the hand winder.

This happened to me and I shoved a small empty cone inside from the bottom and that saved the day and no rewinding. If you need some I have 9 I could post to you.

Thank you I will keep that in mind. I received a parcel from Wendystock today with quite a few cones in it, and Nonna57 also came to my rescue so for now I have what is urgently needed.

I have never seen this happen before. If this has happened to the plastic spool it makes me wonder if the thread is still all right. Very interesting post.

Most of it is perfect, my white was a little tempremental near the cone but so far so good with the others.

This has been a very interesting read. I have some threads that have done this but assisted by me when I have accidently trodden on them.

I actually finished a reel today that didn't fall apart while using, check it out and found spiral cracks along the length. Gave it a gentle squeeze and it shattered in my hand, I guess I was lucky it lasted to the end..

Thank you ladies, 2 very special cuties have come to my rescue. I will have to be very careful with the rest of the threads so as not to break more I have over 150 of this brand.. I know what my daughter will be doing after Christmas. hehehe What a New Years Surprise..

I have had the same problem with my dragon threads ,and I also bought lots of them ,I have had to just throw some of them out , because the just become a tangled mess or the inside spool crushes

I'm hoping I won't have to do that. I worked out for me to buy all the thread colours I want it will take my approx 2 1/2 years at buying 10 per month..

Why not try Echidna, if you have not already enquired, they may have some spare empty. This has not happened to me, but may be it could be glued to an old cd for a flat base, i would put a thin plastic or cardboard cotton reel inside to hold the broken one upright first. Good Luck. Sandra.

Hi Marian, what I've done is place a plastic tube inside the tube and broken off the brittle bits and that has given it a bit more life. The ones in the picture below are ones that I saved, but I've still put plastic tubing inside them, so that they won't break whilst on the spool holder. Otherwise do what the others have suggested and rewind them onto other spools. Good luck. Mine that broke like this were Dragon threads. Never bought them again. Love Chris

I have had this happen to me. I have used them upside down and also transferred the thread onto bobbins

They wouldn't be Raiman reels by any chance, because they are the only brand of thread that this has happened to me.

No there are Echidna. The thread is good just the plastic cone has bee damaged some how, I have to be very careful not to even knock them over on my desk or they break.

killiecrankie by killiecrankie 12 Dec 2015

I have some from Echidna but the spools are grey ,hopefully the plastic is a better quality than what is used in yours.

Hi Marian, I have a couple of cones that did this very same thing...What I was wondering..how will you transfer them from one cone to another?

I hand wound the thread of my broken one onto a empty spool.Very time consuming but it would have been easier if I had someone holding & controlling the broken one on a knitting needle while I wound the thread onto another spool.

marianb by marianb 10 Dec 2015

My DH made me a winder like the one shown here last year I think it was Meganne sorry if I got the wrong cutie, he made the handle to fit into a drill and another for hand winding. We have made handles that fit the normal size cone and a thicker one for the 5000m and serger cones.

killiecrankie by killiecrankie 12 Dec 2015
