Wonderful tutorial Carolyn. This is a great design to use the fabric backing with since it is so delicate, you can really see the fabric show through nicely.
Thanks for sharing this with pictures. I have made FSL coasters with a fabric backing. I know you would love purple fabric underneath. So pretty!
thank you for giving us step by step tutorial, just renewed my membership so now I can try these..
I am confused.where does the curtain fabric come in?
It looks to me as if she has hooped the fabric, then the wash away on top of that.
Very nice Carolyn, it almost looks like crochet. Sandra.
so it's wash away-the clear kind.then the fabric and another layer of wash away on top? 3 layers total ?
No fabric is involved. You stitch directly onto the wash-away. You just hoop the wash-away and then start stitching. I use the opaque type, usually hooping 2 layers. Your top and bobbin thread should match because this will be seen from both sides. Many sites, emblibrary for example, have a tutorial on Free Standing Lace. It's so quick and easy, you'll use your largest hoop and stitch as many FSL as you can. I love it. A word of caution: be sure the design says it's FSL; all the stitches connect to each other.
Hoop wws ,then white curtain fabric then sew**** 2 layers only Bev.as you wash away the wws you got a nice solid coaster.
Oh, I'm so silly! I didn't read your entire statement and just plunged in with an answer, which is for making most FSL things, especially ornaments or lace bowls. Not for this type coaster. Sorry for any confusion I might have caused. Mea culpa.
Great tutorial. I bet it would also look interesting with having a solid different color underneath. Hm thinking.......
yes it would i have tried it right now i am sewing with the white fabric and red thread for the coaster
