Hi there all!

So I spent my morning today in trial and error after designing this! Still not 100% happy with it....there are few things I need to fix but thought I would just share with you all my first attempt at it!
The base of the owl is an applique and I have used brown velvet here :)
Would love to hear your feedbacks! :)

Wow, very nicely done for your 1st attempt. Looks great. I have to agree that maybe a tidy up around the outer edge would be good, but gee, it's not criticism from me. I too love his tummy. You have done a great job.

Love the owl and the tummy stitches look just like feathers. Would rather have satin stitches around edges I think---ir do the stitching on something that doesn't fray---but anyone that had the design can make the choice what fabrics they'd like to use, right? It is a sweet owl.

Thank you so much Patti :)
I am glad you liked it. ...yes the satin stitch has been added already for a better finish!
Will update soon :)

i think this is great for your 1st attempt,as Chris said . a satin stitch edge would finish this of neatly and perhaps try it on felt. I make a lot of free standing on felt no backing works great.

You are right...felt would work well too!
Thanks a lot Sandra :)

Well this little Owl looks fabulous. The only thing I'd do extra would be to have satin stitch around the edge. I love the direction of the stitches in the heart shaped stomach. Great effort for your first owl. Love Chris

For your first attempt I'd say that little owl is perfect! I'm too chicken to try digitizing. You might try using that marine vynal that others use. You wouldn't have to fiddle so much with the trimming.

That would have been a great option if I just could find vinyl around here :(
But you have just given me an idea to try something else that I have. ...thank you so much :)

The owl is lovely, but I have some questions.
Is the base fabric or faux leather? If fabric, do you put some glue to the edges after cutting? What kind of stabilizer do you use? Have you felt on the back?

tfk by tfk 10 Nov 2015

Well the base here is fabric and if its one of those that can fray easily then better seal off the edges with fray check or glue! I use tear away in my hoop and I line àll my key chains with coordinating fleece! Felt or any light batting should work too!
Thanks a lot! :)

pennyhal2 by pennyhal2 10 Nov 2015

Remember that Fray Check will leave a mark where you use it.

tfk by tfk 10 Nov 2015

Oh thanks a lot for adding that as I have personally never used it!
