Hi Cuties- I need help fixing my Brother SE 270D machine. I was sewing and my machine made a noise and seems to be almost locked up. The hand wheel was so stiff you couldn't hardly move it to get the needle up. Anyway, my husband can fix most anything NOT electronic-lol- but what did I have to lose. So I got online and found how to take the machine apart at the 'seam'. He got to the inside, worked getting the hand wheel moving again and reassembled the body. The machines computer screen came on, I can go to all my stitches ,makes them fine. My problem is the needle won't bring the bobbin thread up so I really can't sew, even though it will go through all the stitching. From what I gather online, it may have jumped time and timing may need to be adjusted. So..I looked that up and was not able to find out how to do this yourself. Do any of you know how? ..The online so called help, tell me when I get to this point, I need to see a repairman. They don't won't to show you how, because YOUR repairman (my husband) would be able to fix it at home-lol-

I wish I know. I purchased a machine and took it in for repair and when it came back it still would not bring up the bobbin, I had to take it back and show the sales lady, what the problem was. As soon as I did it was like a light bulb turned on, and she know what to write down on the repair ticket. I wish I could fix machines, I have a 400 the only thing wrong is the feed dogs engage at just the wrong time, as the embroidery part is running. Not a pleasant sound.

Togie, Perhaps some of the videos of other sewing machines would help after all. Same ideas for different models might not matter. My husband is a great fixer also, what would we do without them? Gotta love em!

Hi Toogie. I would check the bobbin case and bobbin compartment. Maybe something broke and fell in there. Good luck.

Although this machine emb too(4x4) I don't use the emb part since I got my used 5x7 Brother. I figure what the techs charge around here I can buy just a regular sewing machine at Walmart. Hubby is good at fixing, making, building, a real good handyman. If he could know where you adjust timing I am sure he could fix it. I really got my $434.00 worth out of her. She has been used steadily for almost 10 years and has served me well. Just hate to let her go but I have to do something. If I can't find a self help on net I'll have to get something else for sewing soon.

I have a Se270D---It is in the shed awaiting target practice---mine got to where the cassette threader would not work---even with an extra cassette---I got an SE400--can't do Disney but it is a little workhorse-----got it on Overstock with a coupon for a very good price about 2 years ago---she works and works and works----just cranks out what I want cranked out----hope you can get your machine fixed---many Brother parts are usable from one model to another I think--my 400 also winds beautiful bobbins which my 780D does NOT---many times I will have both SE400 and 780D stitching at the same time----they are right next to each other and I am RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM----I do NOT walk away---if I do CATHUNK----Hope things work out for you-----God bless you.

Hey, bring that baby in! .. You know mine (cassette) wouldn't work. I would thread it snap it in,snap it in, SNAP it in, till finally it would thread. Sometimes would also thread the needle-lol- Well I started putting my thread on my homemade cone holder (looks like the bought ones) and threading my cassette, then snapping it in. When it would finally thread, I learned to cut my thread between the eye of the cone holder and my flip top on my cassette. I didn't snap the cassette out! Remember, its finally threaded-lol-I tied my new color onto the threaded one , un-threaded my needle and pulled that new color all the way through, cut my knot tie on. Then I just threaded my needle. Wa-La! ...The only thing you have to remember is, once you get that cassette to thread your machine, DON'T UNSNAP IT when you change colors, just tie on. When the new color tie on gets through, cut old color off where you tied on and thread needle by hand...That machine probably still has miles to go!

I forgot to say, since DH took it apart and put back together, guess what. The cassette is working again and even threads the NEEDLE !-lol- still can't do me any good if he doesn't get the timing set.

Wow----mine is STILL sitting out in my shed-----I kept it by my piano for a long time just to wind bobbins----it did that beautifully and then QUIT doing that---still do not have the ----to trash it-----have used some parts on other machines----may give the thread stand version a try someday when I have time-----I did like the fact it would do Disney---but now gkids are out of that so really have no use for Disney----780D does Disney but I SELDOM use them---I purchased one from Brother---$7-8 and stitched it out ONCE-----have MORE fun looking at all the sites I have found through Cute---Disney is ok---but I have so much fun with others----Thank you for your comments---they help EVERYONE!!!!!! GOD bless you!!!!

Me too Laura , not really wanting to dish out any more money at this time. With Christmas so close I would like to keep sewing. .. I did get my treadle machine going but if I had to sew on it, it would be after Christmas before I finished anything- lol -I know now how those ads of women with little waist got them . That's a work out! It did wind the prettiest bobbin!

I had this happen with a Singer Embroidery machine, timing went out and I was able to buy fix it directions from a singer site for 20.00. After I paid a repairman 150.00 to fix it. I don't remember the details but once it did it one time it kept happening frequently, So i got rid of it and bought a Brother, Sorry I can't help, How old is the machine?

I got it right after Avery was born and she's almost 10. If hubby can't find how to set timing, I'll have to retire her. She has been a little workhorse, she has proven her worth over and over. Probably not many days she had off- lol-
