Love it Carolyn---you could add a silver bling thing to zipper tab to match silver metal zip. I love this.
Looks nice.
Stitching the zip in is one thing, stitching across it when putting the back and lining in is another, more dangerous thing. Did you remove some of the metal teeth, or skip a few stitches?
Have you tried a thicker, #30 or even #18, thread for the fancy stitches - that makes them stand out better as well. Although stitching them twice looks good!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh some figured it out !!Good show Mops **
no i never thought of that(the theread) and i have some thicker thread ***Thanks
It has turned out really well Carolyn, I feel if you go slow over the zipper you should be able to do this with metal ones. Great that it worked for you. Love Chris
Wonderful and ever so lovely. You sure are one Lady living on the wild side there...
Very brave indeed....great job.
Grand job and I am amazed. You know your machine. I don't trust mine. It tickles me to be afraid to put in a zipper then you chomp right in and you and your tough machine beat the odds all they way. I will say and I quote I am chicken to do this with my machine. But as much as you sew I know you know yours.
As they say for danger stunts on tv ....... do not try this at home kiddies...... Unless you Know and I quote that.... know your machine can handle it. By the way I love the twice over the zipper. this bag will hang in there forever metal teeth and all. Hugs
Thanks Mary i just cut another one out i bought some brown leatherette at fabric land hugs
Carolyn, fantastic job you have done.Love it. Sandra.
All I can say is "you are gutsy". Glad it turned out so well.
NICE JOB ON DAY I WILL TRY ITH PURCES.. GOD BLESS LUCY
They are lovely, wonderful job Carolyn! You are very brave using metal zippers ;) Hugs, Yoriko
There is another way to put in a zipper on your emb machine and if you use that method you WILL break a needle. use up some of those nylon zippers you have for no worries
nicely done Carolyn but I'm afraid I have to agree with the others. If you missed a stitch just once the damage to your machine could be very bad & for the price we pay for our dearly beloved machines I 'm afraid I for one would not want to risk it work horse or not. You really were quite fortunate not to have hit it ~an extra hug for you for the advice good or bad~
Another great one Carolyn :) but daring to use a metal zipper....oh my! You have been lucky....
Repeating the decorative stitch makes it stand out better!
Thanks for sharing :)
Very pretty. But I agree that you were very lucky that your needle did not hit the zipper and break. Or worse, mess up something in the needle assembly. Even when making clothing, we never sewed over the teeth, just at the end of the tape. Just as sewing over pins is a no-no.
Jo
Just because you lucked out this time, please don't tempt fate again. Even if it is an "old faithful" machine, you'd be upset if it got broken. Or if the needle hit the wrong way and broke -as they do- you might be injured, and we certainly don't want that to happen!
Great Great job.. I guess all the No Nos are for using metal on an ith project , harmful for emb machines. certainly the stitch row looks far enough away.. Love yours. Congratulations on a job very well done..
Adorable bag. The only way to sew with metal zips is to take the teeth out of the seam - use fabric tabs on both ends of the zip so the machine never comes NEAR a metal tooth. I too have zips that old. I use them on hand maneuvered machine stitched bags where I don't threaten the teeth or machine.
No, no, bad girl. Don't even let the others think they can sew with metal zippers. You're going to make the repair guys RICH! Otherwise, great bag.
Nice job, and you are very brave to sew over a metal zip. Glad it worked out well for you.
Great job, but please be extra careful using metal zippers.
Nice job...but using a metal zipper...you were lucky...and I'm with Sue...I wouldn't recommend anyone else use one!
You are really living dangerously now! I wouldn't recommend anyone else to try it!
Good idea to stitch the fancy stitches twice. Did you think about using two threads in the needle and stitching it once?
Carolyn... you are so brave to try that! I have a bunch of metal zips too, but it's too far to the emb machine repairman for me to risk it. This turned out very pretty (and I'm still giggling over JAM monogram)
Oh you took such a risk using a metal zipper. Your result is great though. Please be very careful.
