Good morning Cuties. I wanted to show you what I bought, from the little lady that I bought my 5x7 Brother embroidery machine from, 2 years ago. I saw it and thought the cabinet was beautiful, and because she had items on top, really never looked at the machine. I was very disappointed, after we drove back to get it, that it wasn't an old Singer. All the old pedal types around here were. I got it anyway, because I still think its pretty-lol-She said it worked last time she used it, but the belt is broke. (Anybody know where I can get a replacement belt?) Look at the bobbins how they fit inside this built in, middle drawer. I have one laid out, on the edge of the machine, to show you how skinny and tall they were.... It was just a whim of mine. I didn't need it, but I wanted it. I like old things....like my husband....sometimes-lol-Toogie--EDITED WEDNESDAY 16TH-Now get this. I ordered the belt and it has been shipped out. My sister came in and we were looking and examining the machine. We opened the cover for the bobbin and the bobbin case is missing. So even when the belt comes, I'm no better off unless the lady I got it from has just misplaced it, which I seriously doubt because it should have been in the machine. I will be calling her though, because she had to have had one, if she sewed with it....story will be continued.....

Toogie, its beautiful. Check with your local shop and see if they can order you a new belt, or this site might have one. Sorry, I couldn't look further for you, not know the model. Have fun.

I will look on it some more. May have to take my magnifying light in there. It is in my bedroom, with my old dresser I showed in someones post the other day. The post someone put, I think baydreamer, about the old chest of drawers someone turned into a VW.
I am 85 and have one of the first Singer electrics my grandmother made my baby clothes on in 1930. Our daughter has my husbands grandmother's treddle machine and they are truly treasures in the family. My grandmother used her machine all her life and promised it to me many years ago. I still see her sitting at the machine and quilting a beauty for me. She lives on.
I love stories, of lives, like yours, Gma. I am so proud to know you and your daughter honor these treasures, because that is truly what they are. My grandmother pedaled many quilt patches out with hers. I wish I had it. My well-to-do greedy uncle, sold it for all he could get, I'm sure, as he handled her estate.

Hey, thanks for this link! I showed my husband so when we get one, I'll let you know. ..The machine has some writing on the head at the back but its hard to see. I will try to get a photo and see if Cuties can make it out. Later tho

Wow, the oak cabinetry looks fantastic. I have my grandmother's old singer and started to restore it a long time ago, but haven't put it all back together yet. At that time, I was looking for the replacement decals for the Singer sewing head, but I was told they don't produce those anymore and I would need to have a graphic artist paint the design by hand. Needless to say, that was cost-prohibitive so there it sits still in pieces.
I'm sure you will enjoy yours once you get the belt replaced. I can see you now, sitting there working the pedal and making beautiful things for your grandbabies.

Look on Ebay I bought some decals for a Singer 221 . Guy is in Florida. Worked great super easy to place and dirt cheap.

My co-worker told me something her daddy did with her grandmothers old Singer treadle machine. She said her grandmother pieced quilts with it up until her death, so it was still working. Her momma wanted the cabinet to put her machine in. So.. her daddy took the old Singer machine head out and threw it, out back, in the creek! (Can you believe!) When her uncle found out, he fished it out of the creek, but it's all rusted up, she said. She said she didn't know what was wrong with her parents because she would have LOVED to have it......I hope you can get your moms back together like you want it. Such a shame not to preserve the past.

I used to replace belts on my car when I was a teenager with panty hose in an emergency (which translates to until payday or it wore out. That may work until you can find one.

I just took this photo. My daughter held the magnifying light (I should have cleaned it first-lol) and the name is Old Kentucky Home. Can you see it in these photos? She also ordered the belt while she was here, from the site rescuer gave. This belt, and the one that came with it, is leather. If I remember right, my grandmothers was round rubber. Thanks again rescuer!

My mother had my grandmothers singer and after her death my Dad remarried. My step-mother put the machine outside in the weather and guess what, no more machine. It broke my heart to lose this piece from my grandmother as I remember her sitting at the machine and making us dresses from flour sacks, I still have the papers where it was purchased.

My neighbor did the same. Pantyhose worked great for her and she always had an extra belt! My mom's electrified treadle machine had this same skinny bobbin.
clintonmiss22, I just found out there is no bobbin case, in the machine. I will be calling the lady about it. Hopefully, it is in her sewing room, just misplaced...should have bought a pair of pantyhose, I guess. Belt and shipping was $16.
I found a picture of the one like my mom's, however, I couldn't copy it to here. But her's was a singer. Hope you find a better deal than the one I saw - it was $49.95!!

She said they had to downsize. They are in their late 70's early 80's and starting to think about the kids doing something with all their belongings. She says he has more trouble 'letting go' than her. Sad, when you know your kids don't want the things, that mean so much to you.

She said it worked, but yesterday I opened it up and there was no case, for the bobbin.... I'm going to call the lady and hope she has it 'somewhere' in her sewing room.

So happy for you and your new treasure! My MIL had one but her hubby traded it in for a newer model for her. This is truly a beautiful piece of history and artwork. Glad it has found such a wonderful home.

I will keep it until one of my girls gets it.... I have my moms Singer, that had the drop in disc, for the different stitches. It goes to my youngest daughter. Before they bought their house, she didn't have room for it. Now she has room, I need to bring it to her. There is one stitch, sort of a wavy stitch, it really sews pretty and I like. Yet, I still need to bring it to her.....

Singer Treadle machines usually have Singer on the top of the Treadle. The belts usually come either round or flat some have a pin (Large Metal Staple) to join them so when you run out of room to adjust the belt tension you can cut a bit of belt off & re-join the belt. If the old belt is loose check the wheels for an adjustment which is usually on the large wheel (moves down) when replacing with a new belt adjust the wheels the making sure that the tension is not too tight or loose. open your fingers around the belt (side to side) below the small wheel, if the belt touches or overlaps the belt is too loose the belt should have a bit of give but not too much, use the wheel for adjusting the tension. Hope this helps. If there is a handy man or a sewing factory near you they may have the metal joiner. Do not throw out the broken belt as it may only be missing the joiner or the tension was too tight & stretched the leather & was cut, look at the ends to see if there's a small hole in it, if so the clip is missing. Thanks for the info and I still have the old belt with the hook pin. If the new one comes without it my dh can replace. I'll have to see how, to lower the wheel, to install the belt.

I bet its pretty too. Show us a photo, I'd love to see as would others, I'm sure. Would also love to see the head, because I never heard of Beale. Was it made just in Australia or abroad too? Here in our 'neck of the woods' they were mostly Singers. My grands was a Singer, thats why I never thought to look before I went to buy it. I just assumed all treadles were Singer.

A fantastic find! I was given an old Singer Treadle Machine but the cabinet is not in great condition at the moment its sitting in our garage, not sure hat to do with it won't fit inside

At least take the head off and bring it in, so it won't rust, if the cabinet is beyond repair. How bad is the cabinet?
It shouldn't rust we don't us the garage for cars lol it houses a shed/lockup room for my DH's tools (why I'm still not sure) and the dart board. 1 draw is cracked and little bits of the veneer are missing
What I meant when I said it may rust, if the garage wasn't climate controlled. You know the metal parts may sweat when they get too cold. I'm gonna make a post about my garage troubles when I get a chance, so look out-
