My good morning chuckle

First a little background info, at my house whether it be family or friends, when I invite you to supper, I will clean my house (it is usually always clean), I will probably spend all day cooking (my speciality is seafood) and then will greet you in a special way with a 5 to 7 course meal. Once I have served my meal, my job is done, that is to say that my male guests are responsibile for cleanup and doing the dishes. This is a tradition that stared one Christmas day probably 40 some years ago when after the women in the family haven risen at 5:00 A:M to prepare that 30lb bird, we decided that it was not fair for the females to get up that early, cook and clean and serve all day and the males just ''receive'' all or hard work. It was decided then and there that from then on, the males where responsible for all duties once the meal was served. Even my father (who never stepped foot in a kitchen) would adhere to our new rule and this became part of the family tradition. All of my sister (except one who hates to cook) continue to rule this way.

New guests get a pass for the first time but are told about it and if they accept another invite they know what they are in for. The food seems to bring them back so I guess I am doing something right lol. We have had hundreds of laughs over the years dressing our men in fancy aprons, chefs hats etc. and watching them work. As the elders try to evade this tasks and pass it on to the younger generation, there is always a little ''tit for tat'' competion, which is fun to watch. I have one BIL that always moans and groans and tries to distract the ladies so we don't notice he isn't doing anything until the younger ones take notice.

NOW FOR MY CHUCKLE. This morning as I was packing up my kitchen, I began to notice some strange marks (of various colors and forms) on some of my less used platters, serving bowls etc. Some were so evident that I could almost tell what was served that meal. I had to laugh as I realized that even on an full stomach, those ''males'' can't do anything right. I will never give up my tradition but I guess I will have to start inspecting their work before they put away the dishes. Either that or cut off the drinks until they are done lol. Of course I had to wash many items before packing this morning but the laugh was worth it as I remembered some of our special suppers over the last 25 years. Such wonderful memories.

Sorry I was so long winded but at the same time this has allowed me a much needed sit down rest time after the last box was packed and my kitchen is done.

Now on to other rooms,
hugs to all
Michelle

I love your tradition and I loved your story. I had to laugh with you. I would probably find the same thing if I didn't work with my husband to clean up after a get together. I hope you are doing well and the house is coming along.

This made me chuckle too. A wonderful tradition.
I think it is only fair to have the work divided. My daughter and her family come over once a week for dinner to my house. It is a unspoken rule, that the one that cooked,( that could be my daughter, granddaughter or I) does not have to be part of the clean up.

It is a wonderful tradition and story. I think I will impose it at my home. Except sometimes hubby makes the grand dinner and then I would have to do the cleanup. Lol!

Love your tradition, wish it was one that my family had practiced. Juanita
