HELP! I bought Win7 Pro before Xmas & just now trying to get familiar w/it--going from XP. I still don't have 'mail' (not installed on pro), but transferring my designs has got me in tears. Every one turns to PDF & cannot open or view w/Thumbnailer. Does anyone know if there's a setting I can turn off? I really really hate this computer ...looks like it might end up in dumpster. Appreciate very much any input on this . Thank you.

You will get it.
There is another option from SMTP -- try POP or IMAP

Have now repaired Thumbnailer, and email.com mail acct. almost got everything installed, but still working from old XP. I certainly have a hate relationship with this Win OS.

why do my embroidery files show as pdf files in win7 ----- I googled this, and got quite a few answers. The direct link to the first one I read wouldn't work, so you'll have to browse through what shows up. There is really nothing hard about windows 7 at all! I have 7pro. Some things are a bit different from XP (which we ALL loved and wish it hadn't gone obsolete), but you will find your way around it.
I have hotmail for one account, which is outlook.com. Also gmail and yahoo. All work just as always. Just log on to the account you always had, and it should be there. I do use Chrome now, prefer it to IE.
Check your library for a book (like a Dummy's Guide To) for help with 7. Or ask at a computer store, they are always eager to help.
I had to reinstall everything on this from an XP, and all, from mail to SewIconz, all my embroidery programs, all work fine. Keep on trying, and ask away, you'll be fine once you have it figured out.
Remember, google is a great place to find answers, someone else has always had the same problem.

I tried Live Essentials mail..was on phone w3 techs at my internet provider for over 2 hrs, none could get the SMTP to work. They finally set up for web mail, I tho't I was pretty smart w/XP..can dance a jig on it..this 7 pro has made me lose my religion and take up 'cussin'. Installed PEDesign 6 times from Bro site..uninstalled all. Seems fine, but just a flash. Can't get my Thumbnailer to work. I wonder if it's the computer. Son uses Win7..he's about to own another.'

I feel so bad for you, Have you contacted the Thumbnailer people with your problem? If I remember correctly, when I got this computer, all I had to do for my email accts, was to go the main pages (ie, hotmail.com;gmail.com) and sign in. Since they are cloud based, everything was still there.
This one is a refurbished computer. 2 weeks after I got it, weird things were happening, and I had to send it to Canada, of all places, for them to fix it.They reloaded win7 back on to start fresh. Then, after getting it back, something else went wrong. I complained to my son, and he put a new hard drive into it, which meant that for a 3rd time I was putting things back on. All has been okay (knock on wood) since then. So I understand your frustrations. Maybe your son can see what's wrong.

It is the PDF that is set to take control of the file types (not otherwise assigned) Just right click the design file and set the file association to the program you want to use to open designs.

Also, Outlook should be installed on your computer.

awesome1 by awesome1 14 Jun 2015

No Outlook, I read that this was the computer that Microsoft skipped the mail installation...Re designs, first transfer showed icons, then changed to PDF. I have Thumbnailer and designs should show as images..but only PDF. Thank you for input.

Sorry, I use the free online Outlook. It used to be Hotmail but has changed a lot.
To change the file associations you can do that via the Start button. Type File Association, it should take you there. You will find MANY file types!@ Only change the ones you know you need! If you change other's it will mess things up.

Rescuer--thank you so much for advice re file assoc. I got rid of the pdf's that showed instead of my emb icons. Now to get Thumbnailer nailed down. Can you come spend a few days with me and my computer? I have never felt so helpless in my life!

We find we need our computers and that tends to make us feel helpless. Just remember, you have done harder things than this!
My smart phone has a mind of its own and "thinks" I should not know how to type or select.
