I've been experimenting with organza flowers again. This is my own design (for the J-club ladies.)

The experimental part is the construction of the flower. For the one in the close up, I had a bead at the end of my stem wire. I put in a gathering thread in a circle around the centre of the flower. I pushed the stem wire through and pulled the bead into the centre of the flower and then pulled the gathering thread tight. I put a couple of stitches through the hole in the bead before fastening off.
I did all that while the glue gun was heating up to do the second one! I prefer the stitched one. The gathering thread wouldn't show if it matched the organza! Unfortunately the glue in my gun at the moment is green. It wouldn't look so messy if it was clear.

Sue, this flower is so beautiful--I see nothing at all wrong and would be lovely in single vase or a whole collection.

really pretty Sue! You have colour glue for your glue gun? That is pretty Neat! ~hugs~ PS I once made 250 of them (tulips actually) for my friends wedding years ago & you put wee mints in the tube part of the flower.

These are just so delicate and beautiful at once. I can see a whole vase of flowers made out of different kinds of organza, lace, chiffon, or whatever soft fabrics would be suitable. They look great Sue, well done. Love Chris

During my millenary period I used to make flowers by stfening organza with an alcohol based solution till it felt like paper, cut out the shapes, curl every petal with different heated irons and then assemble them. I love the simplicity of this method and have used some of the flowers shapes this way.

mops by mops 09 Jun 2015

stfening should be stiffening

spendlove by spendlove 09 Jun 2015

Fascinating, Martine. Thanks for sharing.

ethan by ethan 10 Jun 2015

Is this stiffening solution homemade or is it a brand that can be bought?. G

mops by mops edited 10 Jun 2015

Bought at my supplier's - a general stiffener in hat making, used for straw hats, and (diluted) for felt hats as well. I used it on silk, organza and even denim to make flowers.
